kitten and sock update
We had a very hot, humid weekend, so after doing my chores and making sure all the outside animals had plenty of water, the dogs, cats and humans hid inside in the air-conditioning. This allowed me to finish knitting the red socks that I had started on my trip to Ohio. This is a store-bought yarn that is a wool blend. The brand begins with an S- but I lost the label on the trip. I purchased it at Studio S a couple of years ago and raided my "stash" to have something to knit on the trip. I had knitted an identical pair in blue as a Christmas gift for a friend and wanted a pair for myself. Here are the socks:

Amazingly, the sheep spent quite a while out on the pasture grazing today. Maybe it has been so hideously hot and humid lately, that a day which was only moderately misearble seemed pretty good to them.
We named the kitten "Oliver" and he is continuing to grow and thrive. We introduced him to Joe, our calmest dog, yesterday. I had Joe lie down next to me and be petted. The kitten hissed and growled a bit and then he settled down and just looked at Joe from a few feet away. Joe was good about not being intimidating to the kitty. He is smart about things like that. After the kitty has his feline leukemia test on Tuesday, he can come downstairs and start being integrated into our little pack. The vet said it was best to wait until the kitty was 8 weeks old to be large enough to get a good blood sample. Then we will know we are not putting Seams (our adult cat) at risk. I feel bad that he has to have blood taken when he is still quite small, but I think it will be best for him to get used to dogs and another cat from a young age. So we might as well get it over with.
