the birth of lambs from Katja, Mara and Pilvi (catching up)

I have fallen behind on my blog again.  Unfortunately when real life gets busy "blog life" seems to suffer.  So I am going to try to get some photos of the younger lambs up here and then get caught up to the present time.

Katja had white triplets on Wednesday April 16th.  They are triplets: one ram lamb and two ewe lambs.  All are good size, especially given that they are triplets.  The male was 6 lbs 11 oz, the bigger female was 6 lbs 10 oz and the smaller female was 5 lbs 12 oz.  Like most Finn lambs (excluding the F1s from the AI), they were sort of two-dimensional looking for the first week.  Their weights were because they were all pretty tall and had good sized frames like their sire Martti.  Finn lambs get their cuteness about one week of age.

Here they are as newborns:

And here are the smaller ewe lamb and the ram lamb napping:

Aaawwwww.....   It was a warm day and I think that is why they chose to sleep next to the water bucket instead of under their heat lamp.

On the morning of Saturday, April 19th, Mara had her lambs.  Bo is the sire of these lambs.  She had triplet ewe lambs but unfortunately one was stillborn. Of the two live lambs, one was a black ewe lamb at 6 lbs 7 oz and the other was a black and white "panda" piebald that was 7 lbs 7 oz.  The stillborn lamb was 3 lbs 8 oz.  This is the first stillborn lamb we have ever had after 42 live births.  (My vet says I am incredibly lucky.)  We tried everything we could to bring her around, but there was just no life there at all.  We buried her in a little grave on our farm.

Then on the evening of April 26th, Pilvi had triplets.  One is a black ram lamb that was 6 lbs 10 oz, one is a white ewe lamb that was 6 lbs 2 oz and one was a white ram lamb that was 5 lbs 10 oz.  Because they are sired by Kahvi, who is brown, all of these lambs are recessive for brown.  That means they have one gene for black and one gene for brown (BB Bb).

Right after these lambs were born, I got called out of town on a family emergency and my husband, Upal, was left to be substitute shepherd.  So the first photos I have of this litter are take at one week old:
