Two New Rams
Two weeks ago, on September 14th, my new rams came home. They are both from my friend Sandy De Master of Wee Croft Finnsheep who is retiring from breeding. One is Wendall...

who is brown. Wendall is a big ram and has lovely wool.

The other is Charlie...

who is white. His wool is also nice. Charlie is a "teaser ram" which means he has had a vasectomy. So he thinks he is a real ram, but he "shoots blanks". Teaser rams can be used to help bring ewes into season and are especially helpful when doing Artificial Insemination (AI). I won't be doing any AI this year, but hope to be doing some again in future years if I am able to import some more frozen semen from Finland. But he had already had the surgery and won't be of any use to anyone else, so I thought, why not give him a home and hope it works out for all of us?
Both boys are very sweet and starting to trust me more. This is the first time I have purchased adult sheep. All of my other sheep were purchased as lambs or born here. So it is a new experience for all of us.
